Prasonisi Rhodes

Prasoni Island 12 Kilometres from Kattavia.  Rhodes Island Greece

Holiday maker's review

If you visit Katavvia make sure you take that road trip to Prasonisi.  There isn't anything like it around.  You must go there.  Good for swimming and we spotted the odd wind surfer or two.  Not many shops, but Katavia had a couple of good Greek restaurants or tavernas as they call them to eat and had a nice cold drink.

When the wind is blowing the path that links the small island to main land Rhodes disappears.

Katavvia Village

Katavia (called the Kattavos in Ancient Greek) is the most southern village in south of Rhodes.  You will be stunned when you visit the Greek Church of Theotokou (Kimiseos - which means asleep).  These wonderful pictures are from the 17th century and are displayed on the walls.  You will also find around the village unearthed burial tomes from the Mykinaiki period.  Around 12 kilo metres from the village of Katavia, you will arrive to the most southern part of Rhodes Island and reach Prasonisi.  When the tides are low you can walk to it over the sands.  It takes just 10 minutes to get there.  When winter sets in, usually you cannot get there by foot as the sea covers the sand.  During the summer Prasonisi is very popular for wind surfers and all other water activies.
